Allison Keil – For Autumn

by | Feb 16, 2018 | Song of the Day

“For Autumn” is an easy, slightly breathy waltz with a great melody. In its present voice-and-guitar form it’s more of a demo, but relax your brain and imagine an acoustic bass, a piano, some tasteful strings.

Like our previous Song-of-the-Day subject, Allison is making her music in a dorm room. “Sorry these songs are not good quality,” she notes on the song’s Bandcamp page. “The guitar available for use at these dorms in Salzburg is super shitty and I don’t have a way to record music high quality.” Thus the title of the EP, Some Shitty Salzburg Songs.

Allison Keil describes herself as a “wacky gal from Seattle making mediocre music” and “studying abroad in Salzburg.” I don’t know about the mediocre part; “For Autumn” displays a world of potential. Allison is of the Ingrid Michaelson vocal school, which isn’t a bad thing. There will always be a place for these Rosie Thomas, Cat Power, Nora Jones with a Guitar singer-songwriters.

I enjoyed “For Autumn.” If you would like to hear more of Allison Keil’s songs, visit her Bandcamp page.
